4Learning

First broadcast on Channel 4 in 2001.

All About Us: AIDS Special
Duration: 15 minutes

Examines what AIDS is, how you get it and what can be done about it.
Made for use in Primary Schools.

Reporters, Charlotte Hindle and Zoe Conway visit Africa, the worst affected continent, to learn why AIDS has spread so rapidly there and talk to Marie Staunton, Head of the charity Plan International about the situation.

In Kenya thousands of children are orphaned when their parents die because of AIDS. Two of them, Samuel and Jessica, tell us what life is like without a mother or father.

But AIDS is not just in Africa, back in the UK we hear from three children whose lives have had to change too. None of them were able to actually appear on the programme because of the stigma and fear surrounding the disease. Their stories are told by actors.

Off Limits: AIDS Special
Duration: 25 minutes

A longer version of the above programme for older students.
This programme includes an interview with Keith Weinstein from The National Aids Trust with more details about the situation in the UK.

If you have any worries or concerns about AIDS or HIV then talk to someone you trust or contact the National AIDS Helpline on 0800 567 123.
